Marta Petts Senior Care Assistant at Marham House, joined the team when we first opened in March 2020, since then Marta has been a valued member of our team and a welcomed smile for all the residents.
When talking with Marta about her decision to walk 100 miles for MIND charity and for the resident’s funds, her reasoning behind it was so meaningful and gave credit to the already lovely and caring lady she is.
“At the beginning of March this year, I was very excited to be starting a new job, in a brand new,
beautiful care home. I had so many expectations and ideas and then came the Covid19 and laughed in my face. Very quickly life became quite pressured and stressful. I've put on weight and started to notice the signs that depression is about to hit.”
“Having had worked in mental health field for over 5 years I learnt to recognise the signs but also built a little toolbox for mental wellbeing. Exercise and being in nature are some of your best friends in a quest for healthy mind. So, I kicked off my shoes, went to the woods and walked and walked and started to smile again.”
“Then came the thought to challenge myself to walk 100 miles over a course of October. That is on top of the miles I already cover at work, and it is a fair few. Next was an idea that perhaps something else good can come out of it. Helping others, doing something for fellow human beings is another great way to boost your self-esteem. So, I want to raise some money and put it to good use. Half of the raised money will go toward my Care Home's activities fund. Keeping our residents busy with varied, stimulating and enjoyable activities is paramount for their own health and wellbeing and gives them something to look forward to every day. The rest of funds will be donated to a local mental health charity.”
“I'm sure that with some cheering and encouragement I will be able to complete the challenge.”
Marta hit her £200 challenge in less that 24 hours with the generous and kind support from those who have donated to her “Just Giving Page”. Here at Marham House we support Marta with this challenge and are blown away with the support she has already received. Marta’s page will be available to donate to throughout October.
