On Wednesday 3rd of September staff at Hazel End Care Home, transported residents back to the 1920’s by throwing a Speakeasy Party.
Staff put on their finest attire, whilst the dining/lounge area was decorated in harmony with the era. Residents spent the afternoon dining, enjoying delicious food all whilst listening to some favourite Jazz songs from the 20s.
Residents continued the afternoon looking through the different fashions of the decade, discussing the “Roarin Twenties” and dancing.
One resident said, “It was great to learn facts about the 1920s, I was able to teach everyone about the prohibition and how long it lasted.”
Gabby Deputy Manager stated “The residents loved seeing all the staff dressed up, seeing the staff dressed up really encouraged the residents to get involved, we all had a brilliant afternoon”.
Flappers of the 1920s were young women who were known for embracing their lifestyles and their energetic freedom. Although at the time not fitting in with society, many deemed them as outrageous, now flappers are considered the first generation of independent women who encouraged a change in society and pushed barriers.
Here at Hazel End we want to push barriers that may have previously been placed on our residents. Whilst encouraging them to embrace their lifestyles, our residents can experience a new way of life, all while living in the comfort of a care home that takes off the daily pressures.
Hazel End Care Home is a luxurious, 66-bedroom facility on Kitchener Road, Bishops Stortford, CM23 1EN. Facilities include three lounges, a sky bar with views over the surrounding area, a garden room which opens onto the garden, there is a quiet room, cinema, a library and seating areas in the corridors as well.
Trusting the right care home with your loved one is a huge decision – Marham House strives to give peace of mind to residents’ families that their loved ones are safe and cared for.
