This week Hazel End saw one of our fantastic residents turn 98. Charles Foster. Charles was born in London on the 18th November 1992, he was one of five children, four girls and himself the only boy. After attending school till he was 14, Charles took on a job in a factory, after deciding this was not the path for him, Charles enlisted into the army at the young age of 17. Now residing at Hazel End Care Home, staff and residents wanted to give a Charles a birthday to remember despite being in a second lockdown.
The day started with a fantastic birthday breakfast with all the trimmings, balloons, presents, cards and fuss, everything you would expect on a very important day.
Due to being in lockdown the team wanted to ensure Charles still felt like he had spent time with his loved ones, and arranged for a virtual teams call, so his Daughters and Grandson could get involved in his party arranged for the afternoon. Charles’ family were able to see him open his presents, have his cake, and play party games. We understand how difficult it is for our residents and their loved ones during these current times, but here at Hazel End we believe in going the extra mile to make our residents feel as happy and supported as we possibly can.
Charles’ Daughters stated “Thank you so much for the love and care you all show to dad and to us as a family. It has made lockdown so much easier for my sister and I knowing how well looked after and happy dad is with you all. Can’t wait to be able to come up and spend real time with you all and have lunch with dad”.
Charles’ Daughters went on to say “It was lovely to be able to spend some time virtually at Dads birthday party - thank you for arranging it for him and us”.
Lifestyle Manager Julie said, “We would like to thank Charles’ family for joining via teams, he was so happy to see his family for his birthday, it was a great afternoon for everyone.”
